After 9/11 everyone from the Bush Administration all the way down to the media (yes, they are to blame too) introduced fear-mongering amongst anyone associated with the Muslim Sect and Arabs, by drilling in our heads this subversive stance against anyone coming from the Middle East.
Even if they were your normal average American like Brown is saying, they were automatically grouped in with the radical Arabic sects conducting terrorism on the U.S. Because our country and many of its citizens are so engrossed by the idea that change is in and of itself a bad thing--they would rather vote for someone who is typical: Caucasian, Christian, familial, etc. They choose to make these damaging associations in order to give justification to the way vote. And I don't even know how many times, amongst even my own friends, has the race card popped up. While it may be in jest--I can't help but wonder if this is really the reason that they're not even looking to see what Obama might have to offer as president.
Really? Race? You're going to overlook his agenda, his ability to reach across party lines because he is black? Because you're a die-hard Republican that isn't open to endorsing a Democrat? Wake up people. If you haven't kept up with the news, you'll see Republicans left and right endorsing Obama because of what McCain could do to this country.
We've got bigger fish to fry than worrying about Obama's race and what religion he chooses to practice. Have you done your homework? Are you aware of how the rest of the world sees us, of our position in the global economy, of our domestic policy and the economic downturn this country is facing? We will be nothing but the laughing stock to the rest of the world if our citizens continue to poorly inform themselves and are TOO lazy to educated themselves on a politician's background.
I was inspired yesterday when Kevin and I went to the Jefferson Memorial and also embarrassed by what he would think of our country if he were to see it now. And I leave you with the inscription at the memorial:
"Almighty God hath created the mind free. All attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burthens. . . are a departure from the plan of the Holy Author of our religion . . . No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship or ministry or shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief, but all men shall be free to profess and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion. I know but one code of morality for men whether acting singly or collectively."
We live in a country that says you are crazy if you don't believe in talking a snake/donkey stories. If you don't think that a man could live to be 900 years old, you are nuts. If you think that the world is older than 6K years and deny that men walked with dinosaurs (like Palin), you are insane.
I just pray for the day that America will be able to accept a politician for his substance and not his race or religion. The majority of the most intelligent people in the history of the world were atheist, agnostic, deist, or ones that believed that God is bigger than a single religion like Einstein. S#@^, they were the ones that created this country and wrote our constitution.
Some of the greatest free thinkers, intellectuals and professors make up this group of people -- even theology PH.D's and officials of the catholic church.
I'd like to vote for someone that is just real. That doesn't make decisions that are based on what his imaginary friend, God, told him or would tell him.
Obama was right. Too many Americans cling to Guns and Religion. How about we begin to cling to intellect and reason?

But without fear mongering politicians would have to actually offer substance! If Jefferson was alive today he'd bitchslap W. back into Bab's uterus.
